One of the things I love about New York is how you can go from subways and art museums to hiking trails and strawberry picking.
Basically like apple picking, but slightly hotter and easier to sample as you pick.
It was a perfect day activity, although one of those big floppy hats would have been nice since it’s full sun everywhere. The one thing we didn’t realize was how fast the berries ripen. When we got to the farm I saw a group with under-ripe looking strawberries and wondered why they picked such inedible ones. A few days after picking our deliciously ripe strawberries I realized that group knew the secret.
The best thing about the farm we found is that they do a CSA program every year. This year was sold out, but fingers crossed I’m hoping to get a spot next summer.
